Virtual GWC Club Alumni Spotlight

Hi, my name is Amaya Mikler, and I joined the She Ran Tech’s virtual Girls Who Code (GWC) club last fall. What’s the She Ran Tech virtual GWC club? Well, it is a free after-school program for teen girls where I had an opportunity to learn about coding, values, and participate in sisterhood activities. Also, I discovered the mission of GWC is to support and increase the number of women in technology by giving young women like myself the computing skills to advance in the field.

The virtual club meetings were very straightforward and easy to access. We covered various women in technology including their role and influence in the industry. The weekly meetings began at 4:30 PM on Thursdays and gave us enough time to work on our social change GWC project. The computing tasks such as learning basic programming languages and coding scripts were surprisingly easy to complete.

The GWC club is a great opportunity for young girls seeking to explore and enter the tech world. Although the club only lasted for a couple of months, I had a fantastic experience. In the future, I'm hoping to pursue more opportunities in technology because of GWC.
